Rav Aviya, married with six children
lives in Alon Shvut.
Born in 5721/1961 in Yerushalayim, he is named after Rav Avraham Yitchak
HaCohen Kook.
He studied in Yeshivat Har Etzion as part of the Hesder Program, and served
for three years in the I.D.F. in Military Intelligence.
He studied for two years in Yeshivot in Mea Shearim in Yerushalayim, and at
the same time completed his B.A. in Tanakh and Jewish Thought at the Hebrew
University. Rav Aviya also has an M.A. in Tanakh and Jewish Thought, and is
currently working on his Doctoral thesis in Tanakh.
Amongst his many posts, he was the Director of "Gesher" from 5742-5749/1982
1989, a movement that aims to bring the Religious and Secular sectors closer
together. He has also taught at Hartman High School in Yerushalayim,
Midreshet Lindenbaum for Girls, Michlelet Efrata and has lectured on the
M.A. course at "Matan", the Women's Torah Institute.
Rav Aviya has taught at Yeshivat Hakibbutz Hadati since 5749/1989 and
specializes in teaching Tanakh, Gemara and Jewish Thought
