Rav Elyashiv Knohl, married with eleven children, lives in Kibbutz Kfar Etzion where he has been the Rabbi for the past decade. He was born in 5708/1948 whilst his father was a POW in the hands of the Jordanian Legion, and was therefore named Elyashiv – God will bring back. His parents were amongst the founders of Kfar Etzion before the War of Independence, and after the Six Day War, he was amongst the founders of the newly re-established Kfar Etzion, the first community to resettle in the Etzion Bloc after the Israeli victory in the 1967 war. After his military service in the Paratroopers, he studied for about five years in Yeshivat Merkaz Harav, and for about eight years in Yeshivat Har Etzion. At the same time, he completed his studies for a B.Ed at the Herzog Teacher Training College as well as receiving Semikha from the Chief Rabbinate of Israel. Rav Elyashiv has taught at Yeshivat Hakibbutz Hadati since 5750/1990 where he his now the head of the Halakha Program, preparing students for the Semikha exams of the Chief Rabbinate of Israel. He has just published a book - Ish Isha - that deals with the instruction given to brides and bridegrooms prior to their wedding, and is also involved – along with Dayanim and legal experts – with the formulation of a pre-nuptial agreement that is due to be published shortly.
