Rav Yoel, born in Haifa in 5706/1946, married with six children and eleven grandchildren, lives in Alon Shvut.

His parents, Dr. Yechiel Bin-Nun and Dr. Shoshana Bin-Nun worked in the fields of education, teaching and writing, as well as in the research of Judaism and the Hebrew language.

He studied in Yeshivat Merkaz Harav for three years before enlisting in the I.D.F. -  where he served in the Paratroop Regiment - and returned for a further two years after his military service.

In 1968 he moved to Gush Etzion and joined  the faculty of the newly established Yeshivat Har Etzion under the direction of Rav Yehuda Amital who was later joined by Rav Aharon Lichtenstein.

Rav Yoel, in the course of his studies has attained Semikha and a B.Ed.

Rav Yoel was an instructor in Kfar Etzion and Ofra Field Schools for five years where he specialized in experiential tours based on the Tanakh, history, archeology and leadership courses for the Nature Protection Organization (Hevra LaHaganat HaTeva).

Rav Yoel is currently also working on his Doctoral thesis at the Hebrew University dealing with aspects of the teachings of Rav Kook, under the direction of Professor Ravitsky.

Rav Yoel is a renowned Torah scholar and is one of the world’s leading experts in the field of Torah education. In 5745/1985 he established and headed the Girls’ Seminary in Ofra, and in 5756/1996 he established - together with Yaakov Shapira - the Girls' Seminary, Yi'ud, which aims to train girls for teaching Jewish Studies in over 45 different schools throughout Israel as part of their National Service.

In 5746/1986 he established, together with the faculty for Tanakh at the Herzog Teacher Training College, the journal "Megadim" that publishes articles in the field of Scripture. 32 journals have been published to date.

Rav Yoel has published numerous articles in the fields of the Hebrew Language, Jewish Thought, Israel Studies, History and Biblical Archeology and Geography.

Rav Yoel has been the Rosh Yeshiva of Yeshivat Hakibbutz Hadati, Ein Tzurim, since Elul 5759/September 2000.

Rav Bin-Nun is a prominent figure in Israeli public life and has made an outstanding contribution to many of the major issues facing the Jewish community both in Israel and in the Diaspora.
